KDA Studio Policies: 2024 - 2025 Dance Season
- Enrollment Fee: Each student will pay a $40 non-refundable fee upon enrollment. Family enrollment discounts are available for families with 3 or more dancers.
- Tuition Payments: You will receive a monthly statement by email. Tuition is due by the 1st of the month or a $35 late fee will be assessed. If payment has not been received by the 10th, the student will not be allowed to participate in class. Monthly tuition payments are non-refundable.
- Automatic Debit: All KDA accounts must have a credit card on file. KDA will no longer take payment in cash and/or check. Credit cards on file will be ran for the FULL amount stated on your KDA Account Balance. If a different amount needs to be ran, please contact the front desk. Cards that are declined on the 1st of the month will be charged a $10 fee on their account.
- Sickness& COVID Closure: Do NOT come to the dance studio if experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, specifically including fever, cough, flu-like symptoms, loss of taste or smell. If KDA must close their doors due to a government shutdown, we will move all our classes virtually. Dancers will be asked to take classes via livestream. If any family is uncomfortable or opt out of the livestream, 50% of your monthly tuition will be credited to your KDA account to be used when we return to the studio.
- Absences: Please contact the KDA Front Desk to report student absences. There is no adjustment to tuition due to closure for vacations, holidays, student absences, inclement weather, or the length of the month. Students may make up missed classes 30 days after class was missed.
- Important Information: Will be provided via web, email, text, Facebook, KDA App and bulletin board postings.
- Schedule Changes: Communication to the KDA front desk of any class changes or dropped classes must happen via email at kdafrontoffice@gmail.com. If communication is not emailed, you will continue to be billed. Class space may be forfeited if a student misses 3 weeks or more of class unless special arrangements have been made.
- Weather Closures: If weather conditions are questionable, call the studio for closure information by 2:30pm. If classes are cancelled, a recorded message will be heard. Please use your own judgment regarding driving in inclement weather.
- Parents & Eating Lounge: Parent lounge is available for parents to hang out during their dancers’ classes. Food & drink will not be allowed in any other space of the dance studio besides the eating lounge. Please respect this area and respect the people in this space. Siblings can hand out in this area with parent. Pick up all messes while in this space.
- Release of Liability: KDA will not be held responsible for injuries or sickness on premises incurred by dancers, parents, siblings and/or anyone accompanying dancers or parents.
- Lost Items: The staff of Kemper Dance Academy, LLC is not responsible for students’ belongings. Please label all dancewear and dance shoes with the dancer’s name. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced personal items and/or dance attire. Please ask the front desk where the “Lost & Found” box is located and check periodically. Unidentified items left unclaimed will periodically begiven to a charitable organization.
- Recital/Showcase: All KDA dancers are invited and encouraged to participate in the annual Winter and Spring showcase. To participate in the Winter and Spring Showcase, a showcase fee is due. The Showcase Fee is non-refundable. Fall Showcase Fee is billed in October and Spring Showcase Fee is billed in February. Discounted Showcase Fee if dancers are participating in both Spring and Fall. This will be billed in October. The fee goes toward the facility rental, security, lighting and cleanup. Showcase tickets will be available online 3-4 weeks before the showcase. Winter Showcase Costumes can be found in the dancers’ closets and a costume list will be emailed out 2 weeks before the event. Spring Showcase Costumes will be ordered for your dancer and must be paid in full prior to the Showcase. Spring Showcase costumes will be billed to your accounts in December. Spring showcase costumes are non-returnable and non-refundable. Additional items such as shoes and tights may be required at the discretion of the teacher.
Class Dress Code
CLASS DRESS CODE: Students must observe a dress code that allows the dancer to move freely and the instructors to evaluate and correct student alignment and position. Except for Hip-Hop classes, baggy clothing and jeans are NOT allowed in class. Hair is to be neatly secured away from face. Reasonable jewelry allowed.
Toddler and Kinder Classes: Any comfortable clothing that they can move in. Dancers are allowed to wear dance clothing but please no large tutus or costumes. Pink Ballet Slippers are always recommended for these classes.
Ballet: GIRLS – Pink ballet slippers, solid black leotard, and ballet pink tights. Hair MUST be worn up in a bun with Bangs pinned back. Leg warmers and fitted sweaters may be worn at first barre exercises. BOYS – Black ballet slippers, black shorts or tights, and solid T- Shirt.
Jazz/Lyrical/Leaps & Turns/Poms: Booty shorts, capri or long fitted jazz pants. Tight fitting dance tops with supportive undergarments. Jazz Shoes are required for Leaps & Turns classes. Please no socks unless instructor says different. Hair must be pulled back out of face.
Tap Booty shorts, capri or long fitted jazz pants. Tight fitting dance tops with supportive undergarments. Tap Shoes with Socks/Tights is a must for all tap classes.
Hip-Hop: Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, Sneakers, but NO STREET SHOES. Check bottom of shoes to ensure no rocks or dirt will be coming into our studio spaces. Please do not come to class bare footed or in socks.
Acro: Tight fitted clothing, preferred a leotard. This will help the instructors be able to spot the dancers in tricks without hurting the dancer and themselves. No shoes or covers over feet. Hair must be pulled back to a low ponytail or French braid out of face.

Class Description
It is important to take care of both your mind and body. Dancers will improve their physical health and gain energy through fun exercises and movement. Dancers will improve their mental health through positive encouragement and accomplishments within the classroom.
“Dance With Me” (Parent & Me): This is a two in one class designed for the parent and child. The parent will attend a work-out based class while the child will attend a creative movement class suitable for ages 12-24 months. Dancers learn basic dance steps and terminology through songs, stories, and play. This class will build their self-confidence to help them blossom while the parent gets a good work-out in!
Tiny Tots will learn basic movement and dance terminology through fun songs and the use of props. Activities constantly change to hold onto those short attention spans! Dance will allow your dancer to build motor skills, grace, and confidence. Tiny tots are designed for dancers ages 2 – 3 years old.
Twinkle Toes is an amazing program designed for dancers ages 3 - 5 years old and is an intro class to our Fancy Feet class. This class incorporates dance terminology with creative movement to keep the dancers engaged during the 45-minute class.
Fancy Feet is suitable for dancers ages 4 – 6 years old. Introduces the basic steps of ballet, tap or jazz. Combination class is a great introduction to dance and the different styles of dance.
Ballet is a classical from of dance with training provided at the barre as well as the center floor. This form of dance is based on techniques, muscle development and control with the focus being on core strength. This dance form encourages poise, balance, and discipline. This is a technique-based class and level placements are based on KDA staff recommendations.
Pointe is an advanced form of ballet and performed in pointe shoes. These shoes are specially designed to hold the weight of the dancer while they dance on their toes. This form is for advanced dancers only and only by recommendation of our KDA ballet teacher.
Jazz is a form of dance derived from ballet. It is characterized by improvisation, syncopation, and regular rhythm. Shoulder, hip, and rib isolation provide more movement than in traditional ballet. Proper techniques and muscles development are still the foundation of this genre. This is a technique-based class and dancers are moved based on KDA staff recommendations.
Lyrical is an expressive art based on ballet and jazz technique. It follows the lyrics of the music and tells a story through the dancer's movement.
Hip Hop is a high energy, fun class focused on incorporating the foundations of hip hop with current street funk style. Foundations primarily focus on basic isolation, popping, house, and b-boy footwork. This class is offered for all ages.
Musical Theatre is a Broadway themed class. Music and style follow both current and past musicals. Dance skills are jazz based therefore musical theatre level follows jazz placement.
Tap dancers use their feet to create sounds and rhythms that work with the music. This genre focuses on musicality and using their upper bodies to create a visual aspect to the dance. Tap dancing is a quick fun form of dance. Level placements for classes are based on the KDA staff recommendations.
Acro is suitable for ages 3+. Encourages coordination, spatial awareness, and fine and gross motor skills. Students will increase their strength and flexibility and learn a variety of tumbling and gymnastics skills.
JEDI Class is offered for students with Down Syndrome, Autism and other developmental disabilities. The program is a great way for children with special needs to get involved in an extracurricular activity while improving motor skills, confidence, and socialization. This class will allow students to gain balance between the two halves of the body, express emotion, and gain muscle control
Specialty is a course designed for the advance dancer ages 7 and up. This class with be a mix of all styles and will have guest teachers from around the US. An additional cost may be present if needed to cover guest teacher cost. This class is an invite only class. If you are interested please contact us at 719-325-6234.
College and Adult Classes are for those ages 18+. From hip hop to yoga and stretch, KDA offers a wide range of classes to fit a busy schedule. Enroll in unlimited classes, or signup for our flexible classes one at a time. We offer a variety of classes and times to fit your schedule.
